How do I subscribe?

To create a new subscription, visit the Membership Levels page and select a plan. We offer monthly and annual plans that will re-bill automatically, and a 3-year and lifetime subscription that do not renew and offer even more value.

How do I renew if my subscription expired?

Your login and password will continue to work after your subscription has expired. You will not, however be able to continue reading subscriber-only content. You do not need to create a new account. Log in to your existing account, and visit the Membership Levels page (or click on “My Account” from the top menu). Click the Renew option, or select a new plan and your subscription will renew.

How do I update my credit card on file for renewals?

Visit the “Account Info” page on the “My Account” menu, and select “Update Billing Info” to input a new card number. If you’d like to check the card on file, look at your most recent invoice on the “Account Info” page to see the last 4 digits of the card that was most recently billed.

Is my card information safe?

We take privacy and security very seriously. All data to and from The Buffalo Star website is protected with SSL encryption. Credit card transactions are processed by When placing an order, or keeping your card on file, your billing details are transmitted directly to Stripe and never pass through our servers. At no time does The Buffalo Star staff personally see, or store your card information. Stripe is an industry leading, international corporation that meets or exceeds all credit card industry security standards. Learn more at their homepage.

How do I upgrade my account?

Visit the “Account Info” page on the “My Account” menu, and select the “Change Plan” option. Please note that any changes to your plan take effect immediately. You may wish to wait until you near your current expiration date before ordering an upgrade, as any time remaining will not be carried over. You can also view your upcoming expiration date on the “Account Info” screen.

How do I cancel my account?

Visit the “Account Info” page on the “My Account” menu, and select the “Cancel Account” option. Please note that account cancellations are processed immediately. Your subscription will instantly be terminated and you will not be able to use any remaining time. Your login and password to the site will continue to work if you wish to come back and re-subscribe with us in the future; though you will not be able to view subscribers-only content.

Why can’t I read subscribers-only articles?

Please make sure that you’ve logged in to your account, and that your subscription is still current. If your subscription has expired, you’ll still be able to log in, but you won’t be able to see subscribers-only content. You can check the status and expiration of your account on the “Account Info” page under the “My Account” menu.

Can I share my account?

Sharing of accounts is strictly forbidden. You may use your account on more than one personal device, but one account is valid for one person. Any accounts being shared will be immediately terminated without refund. If you suspect somebody else has your password or is accessing your account, please change your password immediately and bring it to our attention.

How do gift subscriptions work?

Gift subscriptions can be given for one year, three year, or lifetime access. Current subscribers as well as guests to the site may purchase gift codes. If you’re not a current subscriber, you’ll be asked to create a login and password to the site during check out. You can use this login to return and retrieve or check on the status of your gift code, if necessary. (You may also upgrade to a subscription of your own on the “Account Info” page by selecting a plan!)

When a gift subscription is purchased, you will receive a code redeemable for the selected plan. The code will be displayed on screen, a copy sent to you via e-mail, and will be available from the “Account Info” page. To give your gift, simply give the code (or forward the welcome e-mail) to your gift recipient.

A gift recipient only need enter the code (or click the link in the welcome e-mail) to sign up for their subscription. A credit card is not needed to redeem a gift code. Gift subscriptions do not renew automatically. A gift recipient can renew their subscription at the end of their gift term by visiting the “Account Info” page and selecting “Change Plan” and choosing a new plan to renew with.

An existing subscriber can also redeem a gift subscription by visiting the “Account Info” page and selecting “Change Plan” and entering the code on the checkout screen. Please note that redeeming a gift code as a current subscriber will terminate your existing plan and begin the gift subscription immediately. We suggest redeeming it at the end of your current term so you don’t lose any time on a current subscription.

Unredeemed gift codes are valid for one year from the date of purchase. Gift codes may only be redeemed once, so please keep them safe. Gift codes are non-refundable.

Why can’t I access content on my mobile device?

Please make sure you’ve logged in on your mobile device, and your subscription is currently active. If you log in on several devices, the site may log you out on other devices you have not used recently. Simply log in again on your device.

How do I change my password?

Visit the “Edit Profile” page under the “My Account” menu and select a new password.

What if I forgot my password?

Click on a login link from the menu or on an article page, and select the “Lost your password?” option. Instructions for resetting your password will be sent to the e-mail on your account.

How does social login work?

For your convenience you may log in with Facebook, Google, or Twitter. These buttons are available on the log in screen. The first time you use social login, you will be asked to link your social media account to your Buffalo Star account. Please follow the directions on that screen and enter your Buffalo Star username and password went prompted. Once your account is linked, you can log in with that social media account with one click. If you wish to use Facebook for social login, the e-mail used to create your Buffalo Star account must match your Facebook account e-mail address, or you may receive an error. You can update your Buffalo Star e-mail address on file on the “Edit Profile” page under the “My Account” menu.

When using social login, The Buffalo Star can not access nor post things to your social media account, so your information remains safe and private. Your social media account is only used to validate your login credentials. Refer to your social media account’s Apps and/or Privacy settings for more information.

How do I configure my display name for the discussion section?

Visit the “Edit Profile” page under the “My Account” menu. You may set your display name to your real name, or a nickname, of your choosing.

How do I configure an avatar for the discussion section?

Avatars are automatically configured in one of two ways: if you have an existing Avatar set up on, it will automatically be used. If you have linked a social media account to your Buffalo Star account, your social media profile picture will be used. You also have the option of simply uploading an image of your choosing. Visit the “Edit Profile” page under the “My Account” menu.
